2021 Australian National Anti-Doping Policy - Changes for Athletes
A new World Anti-Doping Code comes into effect from 1 January 2021, which includes a number of changes to the anti-doping rules. The main changes for athletes are summarised here, but you can find more information on the Sport Integrity Australia website.
2021 Australian National Anti-Doping Policy - Major Changes
The Australian National Anti-Doping Policy reflects the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code and amendments to Australian anti-doping legislation. The purpose of the Australian National Anti-Doping Policy is to have a single and consistent set of anti-doping rules across all sports in Australia. This policy and the changes mentioned here come into effect on 1 January 2021.
Sport Integrity Australia website
The Sport Integrity Australia website has a range of information and resources to on anti-doping, including:
- information about supplements
- applying for a Therapeutic Use Exemption
- submitting Whereabouts information
- information about athlete testing
WADA Prohibited List
The Prohibited List outlines the substances and methods that are prohibited in sport. It is updated annually by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Remember that individual products or brands are not named on the Prohibited List. Athletes should check the status of all medications before they use them on GlobalDRO.
Checking your substances
Global DRO allows users to check whether the most commonly prescribed and over-the-counter medicines in Australia are permitted or prohibited in sport.
eLearning
Sport Integrity Australia eLearning offers a number of online courses relating to sport integrity, including doping, match fixing, illicit drugs and ethical decision making. Specific anti-doping courses are also available for coaches, support persons, medical practitioners and parents.
Sport Integrity app
The Sport Integrity app is a one-stop shop for all sport integrity needs, designed with athletes in mind. The app allows users to check whether their medications are banned in sport and find low risk supplements. The app is also a tool to raise concerns about things like doping or illicit drug use.
The app is free and can be downloaded from the Apple and Android app stores
Reporting integrity issues
Everyone from athletes, parents, support personnel and supporters plays a role in protecting the integrity of sport. If you see something, say something! Knowledge of, or concerns regarding integrity threats such as doping, corruption, fraud or match-fixing should be reported to Sport Integrity Australia through one of these methods:
