Victorian Institute of Sport’s Emily Beecroft, Ruby Storm and Madeleine Scott led the charge for Australia all claiming multiple medals at the 2019 World Para Swimming World Series in Melbourne over the weekend.
Australia concluded the competition with four gold, six silver and six bronze medals, with 15-year-old Ruby Storm (S14) winning silver in the Women’s 200m Freestyle Multi-Class event, edging out fellow compatriot Jade Lucy (S14).
Another highlight on the schedule was the 100m Butterfly Multi-Class event which saw three VIS swimmers battle it out in the final. Madeleine Scott (S9) (1:12.04) was the best of the three touching the wall in silver position with Ruby Storm and Emily Beecroft rounding out the top five.
However Beecroft got one back over Scott in the Women’s 50m Butterfly Multi-Class race, winning the silver medal just shy of New Zealand’s Sophie Pasoce, who recorded a World Record time.
Scott found herself on the podium one more time, this time it was the Women’s 50m Breaststroke Multi-Class event, touching in bronze position with a time of 37.99.
All eight events were swum as multi-class races, meaning athletes from all classifications competed in the same event, with the Para-swimmer recording a time closest to their class world record crowned the winner.
The next stop for Australians in the World Para Swimming World Series is Singapore, which takes place in May.
