Alistair the Aggressor

After showing a huge amount of grit and determination, VIS para cyclist Alistair Donohoe finished fourth in Stage 4 (Arthur’s Seat) of the Herald Sun Tour, and was awarded the most aggressive rider of the final day of racing.

Into the second-last ascent of Arthur’s Seat on Saturday, experienced pro riders Nick Schultz (Mitchelton-Scott) and Dylan van Baarle (Team Sky) launched off the front of the race. Donohoe was the best of the remaining riders and came close to following the move.

The strong pace of Schultz ensured a stage win for him, while Donohoe just held off the charging group of Kenny Elissonde (Team Sky), Lucas Hamilton (Mitchelton-Scott) and Woods, to finish an admirable fourth on one of the hardest days of racing this summer.

Riding for the Australian Cycling Academy (ACA) team, Donohoe was over the moon with his performance in “sizzling” Melbourne conditions.

“ACA Cycling fully backed me yesterday and gave me the opportunity to risk it and put it all on the line.” He said.

“So many friends, family and fans got out to support me despite the 38 degree heat and you all made the ride so much more enjoyable.

“I cannot wait to get stuck into more racing with these incredible people,” Donohoe said.

Victorian Institute of Sport Performance Manager (Podium), Bill Tait, was very “impressed” with Donohoe’s riding in the Herald Sun Tour and was “rightly the most aggressive rider.”

“Great training equals great form,” Tait added.
