Simmonds earns his Debut

The Kookaburras have defeated world number two, Argentina, 1-0 at Marrara Hockey Centre on Sunday in a warm up for the Darwin International Hockey Open which saw VIS’ Josh Simmonds debut.

The only score came in the third period thanks to Darwin local, Jeremy Hayward’s powerful drive.

Australia also blooded three debutants which included Jack Welch, Jacob Anderson and VIS’ very own Josh Simmonds.

Simmonds did not look out of place on the international stage, trying his luck from a penalty corner before Argentine captain, Pedro Ibarra, shot wide after swooping on an errant pass.

The Kookaburras will face Malaysia from 7pm on Tuesday.
