Hills crowned Australian Cross Country Champion

VIS athlete, Madeline Hills, was a class above the rest at the Australian and Oceania Cross Country Championships, claiming the 10km course victory by almost 400 metres on the Sunshine Coast.

Hills won convincingly in a time of 37:32, with Caitlin Adams (SA) 38:49 in silver, and Lara Hamilton rounding out the podium in 39:29.

The Maleny Golf Club on the Sunshine Coast was a rigorous and demanding course for the athletes.

“Very, very tough course, we heard it was going to be hilly and I don’t think there was anyone that turned up here today that wasn’t surprised and terrified,” Hills said.

“So yeah it was tough, I was counting down the kilometres.

“But I am very happy to have conquered that one.”

In other athletics news, Brooke Stratton has qualified for the Long Jump at the IAAF Diamond League final, to be held in Brussels on 31 August.
