Four out of Four

Four VIS para-cyclists competed and medalled in the first of three World Cups in the UCI’s schedule. Carol Cooke headlined the event winning gold in the Women’s T2 Time Trial at Ostend, Belgium last week.

Cooke also secured a silver medal in the Road Race yesterday, and says that there were “lessons learnt,” before she heads over to Netherlands in July for the second leg of the World Cup.

Victorian Institute of Sport scholarship holder Stuart Tripp was another to stand atop of the podium, winning the Men’s H5 Road Race. Tripp also placed third and won bronze in the Time Trial event.

Alistair Donohoe and Hannah Macdougall also found themselves on the podium, both collecting bronze medals in the Men’s C5 Road Race and the Women’s C4 Time Trial.

Macdougall also went on to win another bronze in the Women's Road Race.

The next UCI para-cycling World Cup will take place in the Netherlands from July 6 – 8.

In other cycling news, several VIS riders competed in Warrnambool over the weekend in the Tour of South West.

Young 16 year old Ashlee Jones rode herself into the general classification with a 3rd placing in the Saturday afternoon time trial and then backed up with a 4th in the Sunday Criterium.  These results helped her win bronze overall, after narrowly missing the silver by 4 seconds in the ‘A’ grade Women’s competition.

Riley Hart road strongly to place 5th in the Saturday afternoon time trial and then 2nd in the Sunday Criterium with a 4th overall in GC.   He was supported by Jensen Plowright who finished 4th in Criterium and Godfrey Slattery who finished 6th in the road race on Saturday morning in the A grade men’s competition.

In the C grade men’s competition Graeme Frislie won the road race on Saturday morning and Criterium on Sunday.  He also placed 2nd in the time trial.  The results netted him a 2nd overall in GC as well as the sprint jersey for the 2 day competition.
