Diving Review: Commonwealth Games

Summary…

VIS’ success in the swimming flowed through to the diving pool, with James Connor and Anabelle Smith claiming medals in a range of events.

Connor competed in three different diving events from the 1m springboard to the synchronised 3m springboard. His success came in the individual events, winning a silver medal in the 1m springboard and a bronze medal in the 3m springboard.

Connor was rapt with his performances.

“To come here and dive that well in a Commonwealth Games and in front of this crowd is great – a huge thrill.” Connor said.

Smith was also among the medal-getters, claiming a bronze in the women’s 3m springboard. However she looked set to win in a gold in the synchronised 3m before a final dive blunder sent the Aussie pair tumbling from the lead to seventh position.

The number…

76.50… The score given to James Connor for his Reverse 2½ Somersaultsdive in the fifth round, equalling the highest dive score given in the men’s 1m springboard final, jumping from fourth to second with a round remaining.

All results…
