Scanlan Shooting for the Stars

A total of eight VIS athletes will represent Australia in shooting at the Commonwealth Games, including defending Commonwealth Games champion, Laetisha Scanlan.

Having just missed out on qualifying for the London 2012 Olympic Games, Victorian Laetisha Scanlan never let it phase her.

Living by the motto “things happen for a reason,” Scanlan is now Australia’s number one ranked female trap shooter and is set to compete in her third Commonwealth Games.

Scanlan admits that she is feeling the pressure on defending her title but will hope that she can reproduce her performance from Glasgow, in front of a home crowd.

“As the reigning Commonwealth Games champion, I do feel like I do have a bit of pressure on me to defend my title,” she said.

“But at the end of the day I need to focus on what I’m doing and my process and if I let outsiders affect that then I wouldn’t be doing the best that I can do.”

“I’m so excited to know that we’ll be competing at a home Games and that all my family and friends can come and watch me. They don’t get that opportunity often.”

Olympic gold medallist Catherine Skinner, will be hoping to successfully complete her medal set and claim a Commonwealth Games title at Gold Coast.

Seasoned Commonwealth Games shooter Emma Cox will combine with Commonwealth Games debutants Mitchell Iles, James Willet and Aislin Jones.

Elena Galiabovitch and Sergei Evglevski make up the VIS pistol representatives.

Shooting will begin on 11 April at Gold Coast 2018.
