Mapasa and Somerville Commonwealth Games selection confirmed

VIS badminton doubles duo, Setyana Mapasa and Gronya Somerville, have been selected in the Australian Commonwealth Games badminton team to compete at Gold Coast 2018.

Somerville and Mapasa are in remarkable form leading into the Commonwealth Games, winning the Oceania Championships for the second time earlier this year.

They also made the final eight in the China Open Super Series last year.

Somerville will bring experience to the table, having already competed at the Commonwealth Games in the past. Whilst Mapasa, who is a World Junior Games medallist, will be looking to add Commonwealth Gold to her trophy cabinet.

“After the great experience of my first Commonwealth Games in Glasgow I am really excited about competing in a home games in front of family and friends and doing everything possible to win a medal,” Somerville said.

Badminton will begin on 5 April at Gold Coast 2018.
