Meantime the decorated career of Lydia Lassila is over after the 36-year-old missed the finals in the women's freestyle aerial skiing at PyeongChang.
Lassila failed to complete her landing on her two jumps in qualifying, missing out on the top twelve and bringing to an end a stellar career which saw her complete at an incredible five Olympics.
Lassila hinted of her retirement on Facebook before her Winter Olympic campaign kicked off.
“It’s the best feeling in the world … standing up there ready to go, heart wants to pump faster, but you tell it to slow down. Mind wants to race ahead, you tell it to stay where you are.” She posted on her Facebook page.
“Be Still now.”
“Control. Confidence. Aggressive. Focused. Off we go... I’m bulletproof. Take off. Autopilot. See it, land it. Relief. Thrill. Ecstasy ... all taking over my body at once. No wonder why this s*** is addictive. This is my WHY. This is WHY I’m here. This is what I’ll miss.”
The Victorian’s career highlight came with a gold medal at the Vancouver Games in 2010, she famously backed this up with a bronze in Sochi in 2014.
Her Vancouver performance earned her the VIS top annual award, the Award of Excellence, as well as the title of AIS Athlete of the Year.
