Gourley going for gold

Co-Captain and two-time Paralympian Mitchell Gourley, will be joined by debutant Jonty O’Callaghan in their quest to win the VIS’ first Paralympic gold medal since 1994 at the PyeongChang Paralympic Games.

Already the reigning Super-Combined World Champion in his classification, Gourley will go into the Para-alpine skiing event as a favourite.

"To be honest my Slalom has been good this year," Gourley told AAP from the Australian team's pre-Games camp in Aspen, Colorado.

"The Super Combined sticks out as a really good opportunity for me and sets up a pretty exciting race with Adam Hall (New Zealand) and Thoms Pfyl (Switzerland), who are the other two guys competing strongly across multiple disciplines.”

"I'm excited and really want to do well in the Downhill and I think I can handle that course if the snow stays the way it is in PyeongChang.”

"That's something that's been a long process for me, to be competitive in the Downhill. I was competitive there last year.”

"I know if I ski my best, especially if the snow is nice and hard, I can challenge in all five events." He said.

The Paralympics will begin on 9 March in PyeongChang.
