Four crowned National Champions at Road Nats

VIS para-cyclists have dominated the 2018 FedUni Road National Championships in Ballarat last week

Victorian Institute of Sport cyclists have dominated the 2018 FedUni Road National Championships in Ballarat last week. Para-cyclists Alistair Donohoe, Hannah MacDougall, Carol Cooke and Stuart Trip have all been crowned Australian champions.

It was an impressive display of cycling from Alistair Donohoe across the entirety of the carnival, winning gold in the MC5 Time Trial and Road Race. Donohoe went on to ride in the elite men’s Road Race, placing 18th in a deep field of riders.

Hannah MacDougall won her second National road title, defeating South Australia’s Meg Lemon in the WC4 Time Trial. In addition, MacDougall picked up silver in the Road Race, with Lemon edging her out in a sprint finish.

2017 Award of Excellence recipient, Carol Cooke completed the Time Trial and Road Race double in the WT2 category.

"It's really great to be part of this whole week of cycling here in Ballarat and to have Para-cycling looked at as just another discipline is a big step in the right direction and kudos to Cycling Australia for doing it," said Cooke.

Rio Paralympic silver medallist, Stuart Tripp claimed the Time Trial National title in the men’s H5 event.

In the under 23 women’s Criterium, Ruby Roseman-Gannon won silver and impressively finished 6th overall in the elite category as the two races were combined.
