Birkinhead notches up qualifier at Zatopek:10

Damien Birkinhead recorded the sole Commonwealth Games A qualifier at Zatopek last Thursday night, heaving the shot put 20.32m

Lakeside Stadium was lit up with the Australian 10,000m Championships and Zatopek:10 event last Thursday night, but it was Damien Birkinhead who stole the show in the Open Men's Shot put in the only Commonwealth Games A qualifying mark of the evening, the VIS scholarship holder threw 20.32m.

 

Visually-impaired athlete, Jaryd Clifford, continues to defy the odds by not only contesting able-bodied events, yet emerging as a talent that will be in contention for the IAAF World U20 Juniors Championships in Finland next year. The VIS Scholarship holder was third across the line in the U20 3000m in a time of 8:24.44.

 

Zoe Buckman and Georgia Griffith placed second and third, respectively, in the Women’s 1500m event.
