VIS cyclists have continued to dominate the Darebin International Sports Centre on Saturday, as the Victorian State titles continued.
Maddie Janssen set the tone of the day for the VIS team with a great win first up, taking gold in the Elite Women’s Time Trial. Tylah Meunier was quick to follow, with a win of his own in the Elite Men category, whilst fellow VIS scholarship holder, Godfrey Slattery took out 3rd.
In the U19 Men’s Time Trial, VIS scholarship holders, Graeme Frislie and Jensen Plowright took out 2nd and 4th, respectively, to round out a successful morning session for the VIS team.
The evening session saw the VIS team continue to dominate across the board, taking a clean sweep in almost all of the Elite and U19 events.
VIS cyclist, Ruby Roseman-Gannon, backed up some great results from last weekend to take out 1st in all three of the major titles; Scratch race, Keirin and the Points race. While VIS scholarship holder, Samantha de Riter, took home 2nd in the Scratch and 3rd in the Points race.
Isaac Buckell and Godfrey Slattery finished 1st and 2nd, respectively, in both the Scratch and Points races in the Elite Men category.
VIS scholarship holder, Conor Rowley, put forward a great race to finish 3rd in the Elite Men’s Keirin.
In the U19 Men, Jensen Plowright took a clean sweep across the board, finishing on top of the podium in the Scratch race, Keirin and Points race.
Rounding out the titles, Ashlee Jones claimed gold in the Keirin, just ahead of fellow VIS athlete Alice Culling who finished an admirable 4th. Jones capped off the night with a 2nd place finish in the Scratch, while Culling finished with a 4th in both the Points race and the Scratch.
With the VIC State team set to be announced at the end of the week, the excellent results from State titles will hopefully help bolster the chances of those looking for selection.
