Scanlan on target at Championships

VIS shooting athletes have cleaned up at the Commonwealth Shooting Federation (CSF) and Oceania Shooting Federation (OSF) Championships in Brisbane over the weekend.

Laetisha Scanlan stole the show for the Australians, taking gold in the Women’s Trap CSF and OSF events in convincing style. She even broke the Commonwealth record in the process, shooting 74 from 75. Fellow VIS scholarship holder, Catherine Skinner, took 2nd behind Scanlan in the OSF event. While VIS athlete, Penny Smith, took the silver in the CSF event.

VIS shooter, Elena Galiabovitch, has plenty to be proud of marking the halfway point of the tournament with two gold and three silvers already under her belt.

In the Women’s Air Pistol, Galiabovitch claimed her first two medals of the event. She took gold in the OSF, before taking silver in the CSF event, behind Indian athlete Heena Sidhu.

In the 25m Women’s Pistol, Galiabovitch did the double, taking out silver in both the CSF and OSF events behind fellow Australian Lalita Yauhleuskaya.

Galiabovitch backed up her solo performance with a win in the 25m Pistol Team in the OSF Championships alongside teammates Lalita Yauhleuskaya and Olivia Erickson.

Aislin Jones also claimed a silver and the bronze in the Women’s Skeet in the OSF and CSF, respectively.

Over 300 athletes from 23 different nations are competing in the Championships, with the Commonwealth Shooting Federation competition serving as a trial for the 2018 Commonwealth Games .

The OSF and CSF Championships are being held at the Belmont Shooting Complex in Brisbane and the competition wraps up on the 8th of November.
