VIS scholarship holders, Setyana Mapasa and Gronya Somerville, have finished their Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open campaign with a valiant quarter-final effort to finish within the top eight.
The VIS scholarship holders were defeated 21-12, 24-22 by Chinese partners Yaqiong Huang and Xiaohan Yu in their quarter-final match to be knocked out of the competition.
Earlier in the competition, the pair defeated Thai duo, Savitree Amitrapai and Pacharapun Chochuwong, 23-21, 21-14.
The result is a standout for the duo, given that the size of the pool at the China Open is considered to be one of the biggest tournaments on the badminton circuit.
