Four named to take on Worlds

Four VIS scholarship holders have been named in the Australian road team headed for the 2017 UCI Road World Championships in Bergen, Norway.

Experienced road cyclists and VIS athletes, Simon Clarke and Mitch Docker, will bolster the Australian side in an effort that will be spearheaded by Tour de France green jersey winner Michael Matthews.

VIS scholarship holder, Jack Haig, will make his debut in the elite team following his first World Tour stage win on the Tour of Poland.

Cycling Australia CEO, Nicholas Green OAM, said he is excited by the team.

“This is certainly a team that has the strength and depth to challenge for the podium in Norway and we wish them the very best for race day.”

VIS scholarship holder, Lucas Hamilton, will lead the U23 team. The announcement follows his win earlier this season at the Tour d’Alsace, second place finish at U23 Giro and fourth place finish at Tour de l’Avenir.

The 2017 UCI Road World Championships will take place in Bergen, Norway from 16-24 September.
