Men's Hockey tour gets good start

The Australian men’s national development team have made a good start to their European tour, winning all but one of their matches in the first half of the tour.

The development squad, which includes VIS scholarship holders, Josh Simmonds, Max Hendry, Johan Durst and Jayshan Randhawa, have so far taken three of four wins on the tour, defeating Germany (4-2), England (2-0), England (4-2) and Belgium (4-0) after an early loss to Germany.

Simmonds and Hendry both played key roles in the first win of the tour, with Simmonds finding the back of the net twice and Hendry once, securing a 4-2 against Germany to bolster the team’s confidence.

The duo continued to score throughout subsequent matches, with Hendry scoring in the second match against England, before backing up his performance in the following match against Belgium. Hendry and Simmonds both managed to find the net against the Belgians to help the Aussies secure arguably their strongest win of the tour so far with a 4-0 final score.

The development team now turns their focus towards matches against Holland and Ireland, before wrapping up their tour.

The tour aims to give up and coming athletes the opportunity to develop their skills and gain experience at an international level.
