VRAS Day at the VIS

Thirty of regional Victoria’s most exciting sporting prospects had the opportunity to rub shoulders with some of Australia’s Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth and World Champions at the VIS on Monday 10 July.

The selection of talented regional athletes, identified through the Regional Academy of Sport network and identified as potential future VIS scholarship holders, visited the world-class facilities at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park to experience what it takes to be a VIS athlete.

The regionally-based talented athletes had the opportunity to hear from Olympic Bronze Medallist from Rio 2016, archer Alec Potts, about his life as an elite athlete.

They also undertook a gym session with an expert Strength & Conditioning Coach, a Talent ID speed and power test with a Sport Scientist, and participated in a practical Pilates session and a cooking class with a Sport Dietitian.

VIS Chief Executive Officer Anne Marie Harrison said, “This unique experience is part of our partnership with the Regional Academies of Sport, supported by the Victorian Government. As well as inspiring the next generation, these athletes will also take information from our experts back to their local clubs for broader community benefit.”
