Mack Horton has snagged silver in the 400m event at the FINA World Championships in Budapest earlier this morning, giving the Australian Dolphins a silver start to their World Championships campaign.
The Rio gold medallist finished two seconds behind China’s Sun Yang with a time of 3:43.85.
Horton said he was happy with silver, but will use the race to work towards a Tokyo 2020 Olympic campaign.
“I thought I could have gone a lot faster, I thought I was capable of more tonight, but it’s the start of the cycle really, so it’s the time I will need to work on and improve on for the next couple of years towards Tokyo,” he said.
“I tried to be a bit stronger in the front end, I was too soft I think, I need to be harder on myself but like I said it’s the start of the cycle and I can work on that now.”
