Hockeyroos London Bound

Four VIS athletes have helped secure a World Cup 2018 qualifier for the Hockeyroos, after defeating Italy 3-1 in Brussels, Belgium in the World League Semi-Finals.

Madeleine Ratcliffe, Laura Barden, Georgia Nanscawen and Rachael Lynch all took to the field in the match for 5th position, with Ratcliffe playing an integral role in sealing the deal for the Hockeyroos, scoring off a deflection with five minutes left in the match.

Hockeyroos Head Coach, Paul Gaudion, told Hockey Australia that securing the World Cup qualifier was a pleasing result.

“We expected Italy to be tough and they were. Whilst we didn’t play as well as we would have liked, it was nice to grind out a win in a pretty tough environment. I think we’ll get some character building through that as well,” he said.

The 2018 Women’s Hockey World Cup will be held in London, 21 July – 5 August, 2018.
