Hamilton on fire

VIS scholarship holder, Lucas Hamilton, has made it into the history books becoming the first Australian to win the Tour of Alsace, as he picked up the general classification win today.

Hamilton’s key win is yet another impressive victory for the young rider, who has already notched up several podium finishes during his 2017 season with the U23 Australian team.

In addition to taking home the general classification win, Hamilton also won the best young rider and the climbers jersey in the process.

Post-race, Hamilton praised his team for their effort adding that the win in Alsace meant a lot to them.

“It was a really tough tour, with every day being raced like it was a one day race. The team were amazing and they made it so much easier for me,” he said.

“It’s really nice to have a win and confidence-wise it gives the team a really good boost heading into some big races.”

Meanwhile, back in Melbourne, VIS young gun Ruby Roseman-Gannon has won the Melbourne Cup on Wheels off 70m.

The VIS scholarship holder put her tactics into play right from the start, marking an attack from Alex Martin-Wallace with four laps left, before putting her foot to the floor in an attack of her own to secure the win by around 20 metres.

Roseman-Gannon was ecstatic to take the win in front of a home crowd.

“That was just crazy. It’s fantastic to win in front of such a huge crowd and on my home track!”

Several VIS scholarship holders also found themselves on the podium throughout the week at the International Track Series Melbourne event, held at DISC over the week.

VIS athlete, Jacob Schmid, gave a standout performance in the Elite Men’s Sprint defeating Rio Olympian, Matt Glaetzer, in the final to secure a gold medal.

Fellow VIS athletes Braeden Dean, Godfrey Slattery and Isaac Buckell also gave excellent performances over the week, scoring plenty of podium finishes for the VIS at the event.
