Diamonds made under Netball pressure

Five VIS scholarship holders have been selected in the Australian Diamonds squad for the Netball Quad Series and Constellation Cup.

Tegan Philip, Emily Mannix, Kate Moloney, Liz Watson and Jo Weston have all been named in the 18-player squad, with Philip, Watson and Weston named in the Netball Quad Series team and Watson and Weston named in the Constellation Cup team as well.

Tegan Philip is returning to the Diamonds squad for the first time since 2014, after missing out on the 2016 season due to an ACL injury. Meanwhile, fellow Vixens teammates Emily Mannix and captain Kate Moloney are set to make their debut for the Diamonds squad.

Selection was based on performances in the Suncorp Super Netball comp, as well as previous international test performances and combinations.

National selector Lisa Alexander said the great skill, drive and resilience impressed the selection panel

“We have witnessed exceptional performances in Suncorp Super Netball and on the international stage, with a number of athletes demonstrating career-best form,” Alexander said.

Meanwhile in Suncorp Super Netball news, all ten contracted Melbourne Vixens players have re-signed with the minor premiership team for the 2018 Suncorp Super Netball Season.

Melbourne Vixens captain, Kate Moloney, said she is really pleased to be joining the Melbourne side once more in 2018.

“It’s so great that we are all sticking together. We had such a great season in 2017, and really are like a big family,” Moloney said.

“The season didn’t quite finish the way we wanted, but next year we will be able to come together again and try and take that next step,” she said.

Head Coach, Simone McKinnis OAM, is also staying on board with the Melbourne Vixens for the 2018 season.
