Cooke finishes on top

Carol Cooke has finished her 2017 UCI Para-Cycling World Cup campaign atop of the podium, taking home gold in both the T2 Individual Time Trial and Road Race in Emmen, The Netherlands over the weekend.

Despite wet and windy conditions and suffering a puncture 600m out from the finish, Cooke sprinted to 1st place two seconds ahead of American Jill Walsh.

Earlier in the competition, Cooke comfortably won the Individual Time Trial in a time of 15:04.31 ahead of the field of five competitors.

Focus will now shift towards to the UCI Para-Cycling World Championships in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on 31st August - 3rd September.

VIS cyclists, Isaac Buckell and Godfrey Slattery, have been named in the Australian team for upcoming 2017 UCI Junior Track World Championships to be held in Montichiari, Italy, 23-27 August.

This will be Slattery’s second time representing Australia at the Junior Track World Championships, while Buckell will make his debut for the Australian team in Italy.

Both VIS scholarship holders were named in the side following standout performances in the 2017 Australian track season, including at the Australian Nationals where Slattery claimed 3 gold medals.

The VIS athletes have both been named in the Men’s Endurance squad alongside teammates Tyler Lindorff (WA), Cooper Sayers (SA) and Stephen Cuff (NSW) in the 15-member team.
