Mathews running on London time

Rio Olympian, Luke Mathews has thrown his name into the mix to line up in the 1500m at the London World Championships after posting a qualifying time at the Nijmegen Global Athletics meeting.

Mathews was paced to the personal best and qualifying time of 3:35.60 by fellow VIS scholarship holder, Ryan Gregson, in what was described as a ‘selfless effort’ to volunteer himself for the job.

The performance moves Mathews up the all-time Australian rankings to 11th.

In Pfungstadt (Germany), Peter Bol opened his European campaign with a victory over 800m in a time of 1:46.08 (SB), 0.67 seconds outside his personal best. The run doubles as a Commonwealth Games A standard, putting him in early contention for Gold Coast 2018.

Bol will next race at the 63rd Janusz Kusociński Memorial in Szeczin (Poland) on 10 June.
