In what was a breakthrough performance over 800m, Georgia Griffith has surprised herself by running an IAAF World Championship qualifying time of 2:00.90 at the Portland Track Festival.
“I think I’m in shock. I had to double check the time to make sure that it was correct. It’s amazing to have the qualifier,” Griffith said.
Improving her all-time Australian ranking to 13th, from 31st the run places Griffith in pole position to be selected for her maiden Australian team.
Also competing in Portland, Linden Hall continued to steer her season in the right direction by clocking a season’s best of 4:04.37 over 1500m.
In Hengelo (NED) at the FBK Games, Luke Mathews further staked his claim for a berth in the 1500m at the IAAF World Championships, with yet another personal best of 3:35.57.
A training partner of Mathews, Zoe Buckman lined up in the women’s 1500m, running a season’s best time of 4:07.73, a mere 0.23 seconds shy of the IAAF World Championships qualifying time.
In Szcezecin (POL) at the 63rd Janusz Kusociński Memorial, Peter Bol fell victim to a large field, where he was boxed in for the majority of the race before finding a gap late to close strongly for 4th place in men’s 800m in a time of 1:47.75.
