VIC Women's Eight retain Queen's Cup

The Victorian women’s eight retained the Queen’s Cup after a thrilling race against the New South Wales side at the Sydney International Rowing Regatta on the weekend.

The NSW team was leading by 1.53 second at the 1500m mark, however the Victorian team was too good, taking out the win and keeping alive their 13-year winning streak. VIS athletes Addy Dunkley-Smith, Hedda Cooper, Katherine Michelmore, Jess Morrison, Jennifer Clearly, Katrina Werry, and Sarah Ben-David were all part of the winning crew.

The Victorian women’s youth eight also had a successful weekend, reclaiming the Bicentennial Cup from Queensland. The youth women’s team featured VIS athletes Skyla Froebel and Ria Thompson.

The Victorian men’s eight brought home silver in the King’s Cup, as the NSW side reclaimed the title. The Victorian side put up a good fight, challenging the leading NSW team towards the end of the race. But it wasn’t enough to take the win, with the Kings Cup returning to NSW.

The Women’s lightweight quad finished second in the race for the Victoria Cup. Alice McNamara represented the VIS in what was a tight race with the Victorian crew finishing narrowly behind the crew from Queensland, with only a 3.74 second margin separating the two.
