Seven swimmers book tickets to World Champs

Seven VIS swimmers book their tickets to the 2017 World Championships.

Olympic champion Mack Horton will spearhead a 31-strong Australian Dolphins Swim Team, named for this year’s FINA World Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary in July.

Horton was the standout VIS performer at the National titles in Brisbane when he became the first man since his childhood idol Grant Hackett in 2008 to complete the domestic 200m, 400m and 1,500m freestyle triple. Horton is keen to push for 400m and 1500m glory at July's world titles in Budapest.

In Hungary, Horton will be joined by VIS swimmers Jessica Hansen, Josh Beaver and Kotuku Ngawati.

Network Coaches Craig Jackson (Melbourne Vicentre) and Scott Talbot (Nunawading) have been selected as Australian coaches.

Meanwhile, Paralympic gold medallist Timothy Disken will lead the Australian Paralympic team into the IPC World Championships in Mexico City, Mexico in September.

A versatile Disken achieved three silver medal swims at the trials across the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 200m IM. Ahmed Kelly was the sole VIS gold medallist, claiming victory in the 100m breaststroke.

The Paralympic team who head to Mexico will boast 20 swimmers, with the VIS represented by Timothy Disken, Madeleine Scott and Emily Beecroft.
