Nitro is a game-changer for athletics, a team-based competition hosting six international teams across three nights at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne. An entertainment spectacle consisting of mixed, traditional and modified events boosting fan engagement to its pinnacle.
The Australian team, captained by VIS athletes Ryan Gregson and Genevieve LaCaze, finished the evening in second on 1050 points, just 30 points behind the Bolt All Stars team captained by the fastest man in the world.
Gregson and Morgan Mitchell started the evening with a bang, claiming victory in the opening event, the mixed distance medley relay. Mitchell delivered a blistering start, whilst Gregson anchored the team to victory in classy performance across 800 metres.
The duo of Genevieve LaCaze and Luke Mathews produced an outstanding crowd pleasing performance in the three-minute relay challenge. The VIS pair roared home to victory and celebrated in style.
Morgan Mitchell notched up her second victory for the night with fellow Victorian Luke Stevens in the 2x300m mixed relay.
In a thrilling elimination mile, where the last placed runner of each lap was eliminated. Jeff Riseley went head to head with Bolt All Stars athlete Matthew Ramsden, who upstaged the three time Olympian. Linden Hall managed to strike back in the women’s event, obtaining maximal points for Australia cruising to a commanding victory by 40 metres.
In the women’s javelin, Kathryn Mitchell settled for third place with a distance of 59.37m, behind Kara Winger (61.16m) of the All-Stars and China’s Liu Shiying (60.94m).
