Rowers swelter at NSW Champs

VIS rowers have produced encouraging performances at the NSW Rowing State Championships in scorching Sydney over the weekend, a compulsory requirement for athletes seeking selection in Australian senior and U23 teams for 2017.

One standout performance was from Gus Widdicombe in the men’s pair (M2-), finishing in second place in a strong field.  Rio 2016 Olympians (W8+) Lucy Stephan and Jess Morrison combined in the women’s pair to finish third.

Rising stars Ria Thompson and Sky Frobel produced strong performances in the women’s U23 and U19 Single Sculls (W1x), with both finishing in second place.

The VIS athletes performed strongly in stifling conditions with the mercury nudging 46 degrees two days in a row and the humidity running at around 60%.
