Nutrition Tip | Happy 2017!

Happy 2017! New Year is often a time where we make New Year Resolutions and pledge to cut out sugar and eat healthy. But how long do these pledges last for until you find it too difficult and just give up? Instead of making unrealistic resolutions, here are 3 things that don't involve dieting or eliminating foods:

1. Practice mindful eating and stop labelling food as 'good' and 'bad' - this black and white thinking can lead to disordered eating. Instead, think of them as 'everyday' and 'sometimes' foods. This makes you less likely to feel ashamed for eating 'sometimes foods', allowing you to enjoy and develop a healthy relationship with food.

2. Get enough shut eye - how many hours of sleep do you get each night? Not getting enough sleep can really impact on your training, eating and ability to concentrate throughout the day. So if you're getting less than 7-8 hours each night, one way to get more sleep is to not to use any technology (phones and ipads) 90 minutes before bed time. Blue light coming from phones and ipads can actually interfere with hormones that make you sleepy.

3. Improve your cooking skills - if you've moved out of home or living in a shared house, cooking for yourself and being organised is definitely a handy skill to have. You don't need to learn how to cook advanced dishes like on Masterchef, but some simple meals like your favourite pasta or stir fries will suffice. This will make life easier when you come home late from training and all you need to do is reheat your meal.

So what are your resolutions for 2017?
