Field claims bronze

VIS cyclist Courtney Field got Australia off to a flying start as she claimed bronze in the keirin on day one of the opening round of the 2016/17 Track World Cup in Glasgow.

The 19 year old was competing in her first World Cup, having only stepped up from the junior ranks at the end of last year. She was in fine form as she battled all the way to the line to earn the podium finish.

In the closely contested sprint to the line, Field was narrowly edged out by 2010 world champion Simona Krupeckaite (Lithuania) and Liubov Basova (Ukraine) who claimed the European title in Paris last month. The final medallists were separated by just six hundredths of a second.

"It is really exciting," Field said of her result but she remains fully focused on the development opportunities the World Cup offers.

"It is very important for me, as it is a huge step to get the chance to race here in Glasgow. I'll be able to learn heaps of things and take experience out of this and apply it to my future racing which is really good."
