Nutrition Tip | Brazilian Food

What do you think of when you hear Brazilian food? Perhaps the Brazilian Churrasco?

Churrasco - otherwise known as barbeque or chargrilled meats - dominate in the Southern region of Brazil but across the country the cuisine actually varies by region, with a colourful fusion of Portuguese, African, the surrounding Amazon and Western European influences.  The basic components of a Brazilian diet are starch (often a cereal grain), legumes, protein and vegetables.

So what does their day on a plate look like? Popular breakfast foods include a coffee, pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), cornbread served with butter and cheese, tropical fruits such as papaya, and even German- and Portuguese-influenced cakes! Lunch and dinner meals are varied, but can feature rice (a staple of Brazilian cuisine), often eaten with beans, meat and root vegetables. In the North-East region where seafood is popular, you will often find seafood or fish stews.  Pizza has even been adopted as one of their own staples, but with Brazilian inspired toppings. So as you can see, there is a lot of diversity in Brazilian cuisine!
