Beaver proud of gutsy debut

Josh Beaver has enjoyed a courageous maiden Olympic appearance, reaching two semi-finals in the men’s 100m and 200m backstroke.

In his first event, the 100m backstroke, Beaver finished seventh in heats before narrowly missing a finals appearance by six hundredths of a second (0.06).

He returned to the pool in the 200m event, where he reached a second semi-final. "I stuck to the race plan which is what I needed to do, and everything went well," Beaver said.

"I'm really happy that I went through. Having swum a semi-final now I know what the expectation is and what it's like so the experience has done me a world of good."

However, after a gutsy performance, Beaver fell just short of the 200m final by two hundredths of a second.
