Aussies dominate Russians

The Australian women’s water polo team kick started their Rio campaign overnight with a dominant win over Russia.

The Aussies opened up a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, with two goals from Ash Southern, and never looked back as they began their quest for gold with a convincing ​14-4 ​victory.

Southern finished with four goals for Australia, while Glencora McGhie added three. Gofers and Webster got two each while Isobel Bishop and Zoe Arancini rounded out the scoring, the latter with a brilliant flick over her head.

The team hope they can carry their form into game two where they will face a strong Italian team at on Thursday 11 August at 11.20pm AEST.
