Rowers claim podium finishes in Lucerne

VIS rowers have claimed two medals at World Rowing Cup 2 in Lucerne as they continued their build-up to the Rio Olympics.

The men's quad sculls crew of VIS athlete Karsten Forsterling and crew mates Alexander Belonogoff, Cameron Girdlestone and James McCrae had a huge finish to cross almost three seconds clear of the second-placed Great Britain crew.

The men’s four crew of VIS athletes Will Lockwood, Josh Booth and Josh Dunkley-Smith and crew mate Josh Hicks were looking strong in their A Final going toe to toe with Great Britain. But two metres before the line Dunkley-Smith “caught a crab”, with his oar getting stuck, and the Brits surged past. They finished second.

The women’s quad sculls with VIS rower Jennifer Cleary and crew mates Maddie Edmunds, Kerry Hore and Jess Hall finished fifth in their A Final.
