Rising star Marcel Walkington won the Gisborne Oceania Triathlon Championships in New Zealand, as the Australian team secured it’s all important wildcard spot for the Rio Olympics.
Walkington claimed a brilliant team effort in the men’s 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run event, crossing the line in 1:52:06.
The victory secures Australia guaranteed three quota places for Rio with a maximum three men.
Fellow VIS Triathletes Declan Wilson and Joel Tobin-White were integral in the Australian pursuit of securing the wildcard position, placing fifth and sixth respectively.
