Paddlers leave nothing on the table

VIS athlete, Jaxon Merritt has been edged out of Olympic selection following a tense head-to-head battle with NSW’s Lucien Delfour at the Oceania Championships held in Penrith last week.

It was the third and final chance for Olympic selection after the two athletes were locked at two wins a piece in the best-of-three system.

Both paddlers left nothing on the table, but Delfour prevailed over the 24 year old Victorian by 0.68 seconds.

Meanwhile, 18 year old VIS development athlete, Oliver James was triumphant at the Victorian Championships over the weekend, defending last year’s title in the open K1 1000m and the K1 500m.
