As the Parade of Nations kicks off Glasgow 2026 tomorrow (5:00am AEST), VIS-supported athletes across eight sports prepare for the Games ahead.
The eve of Glasgow 2026 has arrived, with the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) sending 49 supported athletes to the Commonwealth Games across athletics, swimming, cycling, gymnastics, judo, netball, boxing and wheelchair basketball.
The Games are set to run from 23 July to 2 August in Glasgow, Scotland, opening at the OVO Hydro, the first indoor arena to host a Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony.
Athletes from across the VIS will join the wider Australian team in the Parade of Nations, marking the official start of the Games for a group that brings together first-time Commonwealth Games debutants, returning campaigners and several defending champions.
Among them are judokas Aoife Coughlan and Tinka Easton, who each return to defend Commonwealth titles won in the women’s 70kg and 52kg divisions respectively, while Coughlan’s sister Maeve makes her own Games debut in the women’s 63kg.
In artistic gymnastics, Kate McDonald sets her sights on glory as the reigning Commonwealth balance beam champion.
On the netball court, Diamonds Jo Weston, Kate Moloney and Kiera Austin return after helping Australia claim gold at Birmingham 2022 and will be chasing back-to-back Commonwealth Games titles alongside teammate Sophie Garbin.
In Para cycling, Jessica Gallagher returns to the tandem B event as a reigning Commonwealth champion and one of Australia’s most decorated multi-sport Paralympians.
Competition begins with the VIS-supported group in action across two sports: 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball and Swimming and Para swimming.
