VIS Athlete Transition Guidelines Summary

The VIS Mission of empowering athletes to succeed in sport and life is central to the VIS approach to develop athlete wellbeing and performance. In line with this, the VIS has developed the VIS Athlete Transition Guidelines to outline the resources, services, and support available to athletes as they navigate the transition and change events that occur throughout their VIS Scholarship lifecycle.

Cover page of the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) Athlete Transition Guidelines. A photo of the VIS building with banners forms the background, overlaid with a dark blue panel containing the title “VIS Athlete Transition Guidelines” and the subtitle “Supporting Athlete Transitions at All Stages of the VIS Scholarship Lifecycle.” The VIS logo appears in the lower right corner, with “Summary – July 2026” shown at the bottom.

All VIS athletes will experience transitions. Specifically, all VIS athletes will transition into, within, and from the VIS, within and beyond the realms of their sport.

These guidelines provide an overview of the athlete-focused support available for VIS athletes through the various transitions.

Infographic titled “Transition Support: Performance Lifestyle for Life” from the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS). The graphic outlines transition support available to former VIS scholarship athletes. A timeline shows three stages: PL Contact, First 12 Months, and Post 12 Months. Athletes have access to a VIS Performance Lifestyle Adviser during the scholarship transition phase and beyond. During the first 12 months, support is athlete-focused and adviser-driven, covering identity, wellbeing, personal development, career and education, and lifestyle and sport factors. After 12 months, support remains athlete-focused and athlete-driven. The infographic highlights five support areas: career development, wellbeing support, personal and professional development, community engagement, and understanding self. Additional support includes the VIS Alumni Program and connections to AIS services, including AIS MHRN and AIS CPRN. The design uses a dark blue background with orange and white accents and VIS branding.
