Monday, 15 May 2017

VIS athletes dominated at the Victorian State Shotgun titles over the weekend which doubled as a Australian team selection event for the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held in the Gold Coast early next year.

In a dominant display of world class shooting, VIS Women’s Trap athletes nearly rounded out the entire top five finishers for the event. Catherine Skinner took home the gold, closely followed by fellow VIS scholarship holders Penny Smith in 2nd, Emma Cox in 4th and Laetisha Scanlan in 5th.

In the Women’s Skeet, 17-year old Aislin Jones recorded another gold medal win for the Victorians, finishing four points ahead of silver medallist and West Australian athlete Laura Coles.

VIS athletes Mitchell Iles and Emma Cox both finished with the silver medal in their respective double trap events. Cox finished just behind Suzanne Corry, while Iles was second to NSW athlete James Willett.

In a standout effort, VIS scholarship holders took home a total of four gold, three silver and one bronze from the event.
