Anabelle Smith encouraging women to get active

Friday, 02 November 2018

Anabelle Smith, an Olympic and Commonwealth Games springboard diver and a This Girl Can – Victoria Supporter is leading the way to encourage more women to get active.

Smith, who has competed at two Olympic Games, loves to help her Mum get out and active when she is home in Melbourne.

Caroline Smith works full time and likes to go for a lunch time walk around the shopping centre where she works, but sometimes worries about how she looks when she’s exercising.

“I worry that I look frumpy and I wish I could do more than I actually do. I find it helps though when I exercise with Anabelle because she pushes me and I don’t feel I have to be amazing because I’m not an elite athlete, I’m just Mum,” she said.

Does the Mum of three have wise words to share with women or girls who are thinking about getting active but feel self-conscious?

“Stop making excuses and be proud of who you are and stop worrying about what other people might think.”

This Girl Can – Victoria celebrates women who are all kinds of active – no matter how well they do it, how they look or how sweaty they get.

This Girl Can – Victoria is more than a physical activity campaign. This is about empowering women to feel comfortable in their bodies and in public spaces. This is about women getting active whenever, wherever and however they choose – without worrying about being judged.
