Swimming Review: Commonwealth Games

Monday, 16 April 2018

Summary…

For the first time since Manchester 2002 (Ian Thorpe) Australia again owns the Commonwealth Games 400 metre Mens Freestyle title, thanks to our own Mack Horton.

Horton also won gold in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay, silver in the 200m freestyle and bronze in the 1500m freestyle.

Horton was not the only Victorian Institute of Sport swimmer to produce impressive results.

Adding to Mack’s success in the pool was Ashleigh McConnell (S9 100m Backstroke), Josh Beaver (200m Backstroke) and Madeline Scott (SB9 100m Breaststroke) all winning bronze in their events.

Although not standing on the podium, Jessica Hansen, Emily Beecroft and Matt Haanappel all made it into the finals in their respective events.

Hansen was among the highlights swimming incredibly well, but just missing bronze in the women’s 50m breaststroke by 0.05sec.

Beecroft (S9 100m Freestyle) also just missed out on a podium finish placing fourth in her race.

The number…
