Three VIS Divers set to make a big splash

Monday, 05 February 2018

VIS athletes James Connor, Anna Rose Keating and Anabelle Smith have been selected in the Australian Commonwealth Games Diving team to compete at Gold Coast 2018.

Smith already has two Commonwealth Games Bronze medals as well as an Olympic Bronze from Rio 2016 and will be looking to add to her trophy cabinet at Gold Coast.

Connor also with Commonwealth Games experience, will be looking to improve on his previous performance where he finished 9th in the 10-metre platform as a 14-year-old, in Delhi 2010.

Connor has also competed at the 2012 London Olympic Games in the Men’s 10 metre platform event, but failed to advance to the semi-finals.

18-year-old Keating is set to make her Commonwealth Games debut, selected in the 10m Synchro with fellow Australian Brittany O’Brien.

Australian Team Chef De Mission Steve Moneghetti, believes that the team is looking solid, and that it’s always exciting to see young divers get their opportunity.

“This diving team boasts 10 previous Commonwealth Games medals including three gold, so it is a very strong team,” Moneghetti said.

“It is great to see some great young diving talent coming through as well.”

Diving will begin on 11 April at Gold Coast 2018.
