Vixens humble Firebirds

Saturday, 18 March 2017

The Melbourne Vixens destroyed the Queensland Firebirds in their biggest win of the season over the weekend, comfortably taking the win 66-50.

A formidable Vixens’ defence shook the Queensland side early on, allowing the Vixens to establish an early six-goal lead with the score 17-11 at quarter time.

The Melbourne side continued to streak ahead despite both teams turning the ball over frequently, to establish a 10-point lead at half time.

Heading into the final quarter, the Firebirds made numerous team changes but to no avail, with the Vixens finishing the game with a massive 16-goal win.

Defender Jo Weston was named MVP after she managed to keep Firebirds opponent Gretel Tippett to a mere 8 goals for the match.

Vixens Captain Kate Moloney said she was really happy the team got the game over the line and took the win.

“We’ve been improving over the last few weeks and to win like that is really great,” Moloney said.

The win brings the Vixens to 2nd place on the Suncorp Super Netball ladder, as the Vixens prepare to host the undefeated GIANTS Netball at Hisense Arena next Saturday night.
